AERAP Africa-Europe Science and Innovation Forum, 7 - 10 March 2023
The Forum will be designed to inform and engage with policymakers to ensure that the role and contribution of science, enabled through digital technologies, is reflected in European Union and its Member States’ policies concerning Africa. The meetings will also be designed to increase the level of participation and reinforce the networking by African nations’ with their partners in related EU programmes and science and innovation programmes supported by European Union member states and some associated countries. Digital capacities, existing and new, for expanding science inclusion and citizen participation by all groups in society across Africa, will be explored.
Key policy and programme developments include:
The meeting will address a range of themes, including Biodiversity Health, Medicine, Life Sciences, Geoscience, ICT, Digital Transformation, the Green Agenda, Women and Girls in science, Astronomy, reskilling and upskilling and Agri-food systems. In the Forum, we will examine the feedback loops between scientific funding, education funding, and digital transformation to support evidence for policymakers.

The meeting will also consider how emerging regulations covering data protection, medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics, and other areas impact science in Africa and science and innovation cooperation between Africa and the European Union.

The global context will be considered through the inclusion of speakers from the UN, OECD and other multilateral bodies.

Timilehin Seyi Ogunsakin is a Clinical student at the Ladoke Akintola university of Technology College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. He obtained a medical Certificate from the Havard and Standard University in 2020 (During the COVID 19 pandemic period). He is a bachelor degree student pursuing Psychology at JSS ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION & RESEARCH, Mysuru, India and Many Medical Certificates from Career Development College London, London, United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of the American Society for Microbiologist, Washington DC, United States Of America. Won the Medical student member category of American Psychiatric Association, APA, USA becoming a bonafide member of the association with several Research duties.

Timilehin has worked extensively on the clinical trials related to Neurodegenerative Diseases in several African countries with featured papers in Sweden, Germany and Australia. Under the Tutelage of the Internationally Awarded Researcher, Dr Olusegun Fatumo an Associate professor of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Timilehin joined his international association, Nigeria Genomics and Bioinformatics Network, USA chapter. He Won a Lifetime Fellow Member Award FMERU and FMERC, Eudoxia Research University, USA. With Several international sessions organised by this Registered Organisation. This adventurous programme will hopefully lead to the implementation of an increasingly recognised strategy of integrated, non-disease specific approach to controlling tropical anaemia. Presently he holds 4 International Awards from three 3 countries including India, Dubai and United States of America with over 268 International Certification by Registered and Approved Universities e.g. Malaysia etc

Timilehin research interests focus on the discovery of Neurological Diseases and new anti-neurodegenerative Diseases drugs. This is based on interests in techniques developed at LSHTM and Drug Discovery and Bioinformatic Laboratory, LAUTECH e.g. use of an automated, whole-organism, High-throughput drug screen (HTS) using High Content imaging. This has allowed HT screening of very large compound collections provided by pharma and academia. Through collaboration with medicinal chemists the aim is to develop the lead compounds Quentin and colleagues have discovered into new clinical candidates for schistosomiasis and to extend use of the technology for screening against other helminth species.

On November 2022, Timilehin was accepted as an Ambassador for the Central & Western African Startup Awards. Being part of NEPTHC international Public health Program with a project supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of “Public Health Training Centers.” He also Manage to acquire Cetificate skills and experience by studying Forensics Science and Fingerprinting at Open University, England and Wales, Scotland and more.
